Playlist and notes for 2-22-13

Here we go with another late-night music set! Listen along here!

The first hour (2-3am) was keeping in the spirit of Dr. Zomb’s Stereo Obscura, which if you’ve never listened to before, you should. Keep in mind that Dr. Zomb’s show will be expanding to last until 3am starting in May, so I tried to give the average KBOO listener an idea of how that might sound by doing a “3rd hour” of Stereo Obscura.

At 3am, I changed the mood a bit. I played 2 songs by Drop Odyssey, a new band out of Colorado. Check out their music—it’s fantastic! Finally, in the last 45 minutes or so, I began the transition into the next program, a folk show, to create a seamless transition between shows.

As usual, I use bold to indicate that I played all (or most) of the song and announced the song and artist on the air. The non-bold songs were used as background music or transitional cues, usually played in the background while I was talking. Remember to “like” my Facebook page here or follow me on Twitter… Thank you all for your support.

Playlist and notes for 11-23-12

So I’m at it again—making crazy sounds in the middle of the night! My second late-night set at KBOO started as soon as I walked in the building and was thrown into the middle of a post-Thanksgiving party. There were no less than 6 people there, and the average age of the group was probably about 23. There may have been some alcohol there, but since I don’t want to get anyone in trouble, I’ll just say that there was NO alcohol anywhere near the station.

Right off the bat, I see a girl whose name escapes me now. I had never met her before, but she was “hi-5”ing everyone like crazy. Anyway, she asked me if I would play Die Antwoord, presumably because the guy who was currently on the air didn’t want to play it. I told her “yeah” mainly because I try to plan out my music set to pick up from where the previous host left off, and since they were playing up-tempo dance and hip hop music, Die Antwoord seemed to work just as well as anything I could have picked.

So I keep the party music going until the last of those kiddos leave the station, then at 3 o’clock I start the experimental hour I had planned on doing. As usual, I don’t list the source material for my Random Moments, but I do include the list of songs that might have been played during the music collage.

I use bold to indicate that I played all (or most) of the song and announced the song and artist on the air. The non-bold songs were used as background music or transitional cues, usually played in the background while I was talking. Listen along here; like my Facebook page here; follow me on Twitter here… Thank you all for your support.

Playlist and notes for 8-24-12

Well, quite a crazy night on KBOO the other night. Started a few minutes late, but once I got going I started with Random Moments. Now generally, I don’t list my source material for Random Moments as many of the clips are altered beyond recognition anyway. If anyone does have any questions about what they heard, you’re always free to ask (I will try my best to answer).

Coming out of Random Moments, I played 3 full songs, which are on the playlist below in bold. I use bold to indicate that I played all (or most) of the song and announced the song and artist on the air. The long list of songs after the first three were a part of the sound collage I created live on-air. I played a lot of stuff though, so I can’t guarantee every sound is accounted for on the list.

After the sound collage, I played about 2 1/2 hours of music. Again, the songs listed in bold were played in full. The non-bold songs were used as background music or transitional cues, usually played in the background while I was talking. I’m going to try to use this format for all of my playlists, but I don’t yet know when my next set will be. Definitely check my Facebook page or follow on Twitter… that’s the easiest way for me to let everyone know what’s going on. Thank you all for your support.

A couple of other notes:

Thank you to the person who called in that night and made some requests. It was nice to know at least 1 person was listening in live. If anyone else wants to listen to a recording of it, it’s available on-demand at My set starts almost 4 minutes in (right after the John Cage promo), and ends 3 1/2 hours later. It is not called “The Wiggle Room”, despite what the KBOO website says. And yes, I know Brigadoon is in Scotland, not Spain.
